switched over to salt about 3 years ago,and added a polaris. Best things I ever added. Its not just dumping salt in. You have a chlorinator that turns the salt into chlorine. Its at a much milder rate than just pumping strait chlorine tablets or granules into the pool. Makes your water smoothe like silk too. Dont have to spend much on other chemicals at all. Usually just a little on acid or baking soda to regulate the ph. Dont know much about the iron system other than that my buddy did this too his pool last year. He never could get the water correct and it ended up turning his pool black. He had to drain it and re finish the pool this spring.
