Default Trout Sunday Afternoon

The weather was awesome Sunday so I decided to hook up the boat and head to the lake to catch the afternoon tide. We got to Calcaseu Point about 2 and bought a quart of shrimp for the kids and to maybe carolina rig in the ship channel. While I was at the dock a lady mentioned to me in conversation that she saw a tidal wave of redfish in turners. My buddy had told me that they were schooling Saturday around 4 in the afternoon so we took off for turners. We slipped up slowly on the north side and quickly saw a small school bust the surface. We picked up one red and stayed there for about an hour waiting and fishing but never got another bite or saw any more schools.

I told my buddy and the kids that we would go for a ride and headed south through the lake. The lake was slick and the air still a bit dry and I was enjoying the ride when I saw about 6 birds sitting together about mid lake. We stopped and eased up on them. I boated a nice trout on a Shiney Hiney and it was on from there. My friend and my son Matt had a good time slinging trout into the boat for the next 2 hours on sparkle beetle under a cork and I got some great video. We used a few shrimp but caught most of the fish on plastic.

We headed back to the landing without burning too much fuel and before dark with 32 trout and 1 red.

Great day on the water!
