Default Little Florida Beach-Memorial Day

My brother JJ and I took the yaks to Little Florida Beach (west of Holly Beach) yesterday. He caught 8 specks and 2 sharks. I caught 1, but it was nice, 3.79. I spent much of my time backlashing and cursing myself for not bringing a spinning combo. I had a nice fight with a shark on my last cast, aerial acrobatics and all, but he spit the hook back at the boat. The strong south wind and waves made the rocks even more dangerous. Let's just say I had a close call and JJ joined the Holly Beach swim team . The fish we caught were on the gulf (bad) side of the rocks. It has been a while since I have been there, so I forgot how bad the sharks can get! JJ fed a few sharks from his stringer before we wised up and got the ice chest out of the truck and put it on his kayak. It seems we missed the early bite. Two guys fishing from the rock jetties caught a nice mess and were leaving as we got there. Our late start can be attributed to getting our truck stuck in the sand, along with the truck of the surf fishermen we followed. All fish were caught on glow/chartreuse cocahoe and sand eels...even the sharks!! Learn from our mistakes: Don't drive on soft sand, don't use a stringer, and stay the hell away from the rocks when it is rough.
