To me, the best guides are the ones who teach me a lot of new things and make me a better angler, so I can, in turn, teach my children new things.

I've been underwhelmed by a lot of guides in too much of a hurry to put a limit of fish in the box regardless of whether the clients are learning or having a good time.

The worst guides are those who neither teach nor put many fish in the box.

"W" is a natural teacher. Being a great teacher has two main components:

1. A mastery and enthusiasm for the subject.
2. Patience and willingness to explain things to novices without being overly judgmental.

"W" and Josh demonstrated both today. Of course, I provided them both with lots of opportunities to demonstrate patience with lots of rookie mistakes.
