Most gulf states harvest millions of pounds of marine catfish each year for commercial use, and a lot of catfish sold in restaurants in gulf states is marine catfish (gafftop or hardhead). So there is a significant demand for these species of catfish.
We eat a lot of fish in our household, mostly (freshwater) trout. But we also like a variety of fish from the gulf, including specs, redfish, drum, and catfish. I think we have somekind of fish from the gulf once a week, and catfish once a month or so. My children actually prefer catfish po-boys or fried drum to freshwater trout.
