We used to paddle for Team Puna out of Hilo Hawaii....we did the quarter mile sprints in early spring to mid summer. After a 4 week break....these men and women prepare for the fall distance races...some take half a day and cover the passes between islands. To me this is crazy but this is like the NFL in Hawaii. The islanders live and breathe paddling. This video is just the start of the distance race.....it gets very violent with waves topping 20ft between islands. They always have a boat designated to each team following the whole way. I'll see if i can find some pics of between island action.
