There isn't a body of water in Louisiana that doesn't have some type of pollution, but yes some are much worse than others. I probably wouldn't swim in Lake Charles everyday for that matter. I had this in the back of my mind when at the beach at Grand Isle last week, the kid was having a ball. The storms were picking up and there were tarballs washing up all over. I am cool with that, but that dang Corexit still bothers me.
Did read somewhere that every single water body in the US is polluted in some form or another also, mainly due to air pollution. In other words, you can not go hiking in a remote location and just drink the water, its ultimately unsafe in the long run unless you can get it right out the spring. There are a couple of springs in the Vernon Unit of Kisatchie on hillside seepage bogs that people have stuck pvc into the ground and the water comes out the pipe and its very good and cold, and its as safe as can be found.

We have a camp in Tensas and uncle swears the catfish out of the Tensas River are the best catfish in Louisiana They have a yellow tint to the meat and that place is slap full of farm chemicals and PCBs. I still eat em occasionally, but not if I was pregnant, but if I become pregnant then there are much bigger fish to fry
