That's good info. It was a foot or less of water. Never thought about marking the spots but damn that would have been a good idea. Saw the dust cloud but I fished where I thought he might have moved to, just a few feet away. Lost my patience with them. Like OP said I tried a shad like plastic with no luck. Wish I had a castnet with me. It'd be something to film to see me try to throw it once out of the kayak. Lol
