Why waste time going to the meetings with the Feds? To me, it seems like they are way beyond any reasonable exercise of power in the red snapper fishery, and citizen efforts would be better spent returning power to managers who will manage with sound scientific principles in due consideration of the expressed needs and desires of local anglers. For Louisiana, this would appear to be a complete return of red snapper managment to the state level in the Gulf of Mexico.
Nothing is a waste of time if your voice is heard. The voices are exactly what got Louisiana to go non-compliant with federal snapper regs This may also be why Louisiana is trying to get ahead of the tripletail regs - to keep from having another red snapper fiasco. In other words the state is telling the feds 'we got this'
