Forget what organization (Audubon?) but one of their goals is to keep common birds common. Passenger pigeons once numbered in the billions (with a b) and went extinct pretty quick but that was loss of habitat. Believe it or not in the 1950s the brown pelican was extirpated from Louisiana and almost went extinct. Hard to believe as common as they are now. Alligators have a similar success story
I think most of us honed our marksman skills at a young age with birds and a bb gun. Mom and grandma weren't always happy about it though.lol
