It's been a few years since that happened to me on a trout, but one of my boys had his gafftop bit in half last year. We saw a post on LA Sportsman earlier this year with a bull redfish bitten in half, so we've tried to get them into the boat a bit more quickly.

But I don't really think there are that many sharks in the lake. We fish a lot with bait, but we can't even really catch them when we're trying to (maybe one shark every 5-10 fishing trips). Even with chumming, shark fishing is a slow deal in and around the estuary.
