the ONLY way to solve this never ending drama is to raise enough peoples attention about this to vote to make red snapper declared a game fish and all commercial fishing of them be permanently banned.
then and only then, will you take the $$$ out of this one sided completely ridiculous recreational seasons they implement.
I don't even fish offshore anymore but its so clearly obvious they want to end all recreational fishing for red snapper so the commercials get it all.
nothing they do is about conservation or fair allotment of the resources but its just a good ol boy system to screw over the little guys who don't have the money to buy lobbyists and politicians like the commercials do.
it shouldn't be hard to do by using their own cries of "the sky is falling" and say make red snapper declared a game fish and all commercial fishing of them be permanently banned until the reports say they no longer need any protection. this puts the ball in their court and if they want their commercial buddies to be able to catch fish again then they have to allow recreational quotas to be increased first.
this wouldn't ever have to fully happen, but only appear likely that it will and they will quickly soil their underwear not wanting to risk losing out on the money they are making and they will give in and once again start allowing normal science based quotas for recreational fishing.
since they aren't using science to deny access to these fish they cant fight it if you use their own bogus excuses against them to try and make them gamefish.
