Default Check your rectifier/regulator

My questions are, why won't this new battery hold a charge? Is the dead battery causing it not to run? Will it run with out a fully charged battery or do I have another problem?

Sounds like your rectifier/regulator might be bad, this would prevent your battery from charging. You can check it with a voltage meter, the rectifier/regulator is small and square with fins and located underneath your back rack. A regulator regulates the voltage, preventing overcharging of the electrical system and the rectifier converts the AC current form the alternator, into DC current for use on a battery system.
