Used to fish that all the time with my pawpaw. Caught bass, bream, and goggle eye all the time. Used to hang up on gar and choupique too..at least that's what pawpaw said. Never actually saw the suckers...he'd just cut the line.
After the hurricanes, we went in 2010 (or thereabout). Saw nothing but reds. From what I understand, it has freshened up some and now there bass, bream, and others than can tolerate brackish waters. It has pretty much always been somewhat brackish though. Don't know if I'd have ever considered it fresh. Intermediate at the least.
