I fish south of Chauvin and we fish shrimp mostly. The shrimp is suspended 18" or so below a popping cork that has a 3/8 to 1/2 oz. round lead weight separated from the cork by glass beads. The cork/weights/beads are mounted on 50# mono or coated wire. That said, a 8' medium action and 2500 spirex with 20 or 30# Power Pro will throw the bait into the next parish. That is important when you hit a trout rally and want to stay back from the school. It is also important when you are in the back of the boat and your partner is in the front of the boat when he drops the anchor exactly one long cast from the "spot"!
