I grew up in South Carolina. It's a good state with outstanding deer hunting - deer hunting like folks in Louisiana can't even imagine, but the people there are truly not as happy as they are in Louisiana. I noticed a difference as soon as I moved here - it's not about money, it's about culture and having a good time within the means that you have. While the folks in New York are probably upset that they can't afford Broadway tickets, the good ole cajuns are happy as a pig in slop eating a mess of crawfish and having a few cool ones with friends. This is a great state that is proud of it's culture. It would be a shame to see it become too prosperous and have it overun with folks from California or some other state. The folks from California ruined Colorado (or at least parts of it) and are trying to ruin Montana and Wyoming too.
Nothing against South Carolina (heck, I think it came in 9th place) but I do find people to be happier and friendlier here in Louisiana.
