its not IE doing it but the websites and software updates that add browser "helper" objects that store extra data supposedly to help websites load faster but they just suck up a lot of memory and make it slower.

I have never had any problems with IE on this site but I do use a registry cleaner to clear browser helper objects and run spyware cleaners at least once a week.

also some programs prevent cookies (make sure IE isn't set to do that) and such and that also slows down how the back button works.

im not saying IE is a great browser (not my favorite either) but there is nothing wrong with it and it works just fine so there is no reason to blame it for your troubles
