Default Dirty water and wind?

Before anyone reads this and thinks *** remember I am new-ish to the salt water world....haha.

As I was fishing today and striking out on various plastic lures, shrimp, squid, croaker, mullet, and chicken (I got board/kids idea) I couldn't help but think about the conditions and where I went wrong. I was at the Jetties in Cameron, usually I at least catch a hand full of gaf tops to fry but today I sucked (which is rare for me at the Jetties). I have struck out before but I made the drive knowing the conditions were bad and I would leave empty handed.

I would guess my chances would have been best in a boat today, I could have used my Humminbird to my advantage. Watching the tide reports and the weather I was sure I would get something. Although I have never fished that area where the conditions were good but the water looked like chocolate milk. Any tips for that situation?
