The option that I know works aint exactly pretty course I guess ya could make it so we had sheets of 3/4 marine plywood hinged on top with 2x4 folding legs when open they ensured shade by extending over the screens when down they provided great protection from wind and rain thats how the screen porch I grew up with was protected. plywood shutters would stay propped up till it threatened to storm then they could easily be lowered and latched.It allowed for 4ft tall 8 ft wide screen windows.
