Default Calcasieu River Crappie 5-15-18

left the camp just after daylight. water stained at best with visibility maybe 6" and some places 3". Years ago we never tried in this dirty water. fished from 630-10 and ran out of shiners due to lots of small fish. we took a break and ate and got more shiners and fished from 1230-4pm. Had to work for them catching 2 or 3 in a spot til around 2. maybe had 15 in the box by then but then I found a new hole that produced over 20 from same area. lots of small fish but some good Calcasieu keepers. we ended the day with 31 in box and caught around 45. Dad doesn't have as much patience as I do and just likes the steady action so we mainly stayed in the bays from watermelon bay to old town bay fishin 6' - 9' of water. only tried a few spots on main river channel without any luck this time. caught a few along main river Saturday during tournament. Next time I go by myself I'm gonna try some tree tops in 12-20 feet of water. honestly I'm still surprised we even catching any in this muddy water. one more month without any rain and should be able to get on some nice schools in deep water. not a bad day at all as far as numbers go. try to remember a pic when clean em but it was for sure a quanity over quality kinda a day.
