You may also knock out the Garmin when you key up the vhf. The Vhf antenna shoulf be mounted on the handrail on a fold down or something. The antenna whip itself is also grounding out to the rail. I am not knocking the boat as I think its beautiful I just hate to see a brand new boat unsafe before it even hits the water.

Looks like u need a translator agin. He did not say it was unsafe, just said you would only have reception transmission about the same as a handheld with the thing mounted so low.
