Federal dollars are needed to fund these projects along with the cooperation of the Corp of Engineers. Unfortunately, they hold most of the cards when it comes to projects like these. Rebuilding the marshes are a good idea the problem lies in the fact that there needs to be a replenishing of organics from natural river flooding. This has been virtually eliminated thanks to the afore mentioned Corp of Engineers. Barrier islands are another critical improvement needed to be made so we have protection from the plethora of hurricanes we are getting as of late. Yak'em and I are working as hard as we can to develop genetically diverse plants to rebuild the marshes but we can only go so far without monetary help. This is not just my opinion these are all facts.
