I've killed deer out to 500 with a 25-06, so if the accuracy is there, I would trust a 270 out to 400 with a high BC relatively heavy bullet.
But if your heart is set on a .300 WM, I recommend a muzzle brake. I've had two, one with a brake and one without. The one without was brutal, the one with a break us a joy to shoot.
