We use 16ft 4x4's for the legs and a 6ft 4x4 for the cross piece. Put a pulley on the leg up near the top of the leg so the cable doesn't interfere with the barrel and a pulley in the middle of the cross piece. We've done a bunch of different things to hang the barrels, but the best is burning 2 holes about 3 inches under the lid and running a 1 inch pipe all the way through the barrel, then weld up the gaps and weld chain to the ends of the pipe.
