I find that a net with a shorter handle makes it easier to net fish from my kayak. A good example would be the EGO Wade net. Since ya'll are targeting some larger species, the medium sized net works perfect for those slot and over slot reds. Also, it floats and has rubber netting which is quicker for getting hooks out and less tangle. Also healthier for the fish if releasing them.

Another tip, use shorter rods if fishing from a kayak. Much easier to keep hands on the grip and land fish. Grabbing a rod by the middle of the blank severely increases the likelihood of breaking in half. From experience, I can tell you it will happen.

So, shorter net handles and shorter rods (6' to 7' should be plenty) will make it easier. Also, let the fish tire out. Make sure drag is set well and when the fish tires, he is much easier to net.
