Check out the video The Fast Lane Truck did with an F150 pulling 11k pounds. Yes, the engine can do it, but you don't want to pull that much weight behind a 5200 lb truck.

I've got s gas titan xd and love it too. I tow a bumper pull travel trailer thats about 7-8k lbs. Still has a good ride when not towing. Had a ram 2500 with a 6.4 hemi. Towed well but pretty rough when not towing. Had a '14 f150 with ecoboost. Good power for towing but the truck didnt handle towing near as well as the 3/4 tons. Had a ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi and it was similar to the f150. Power wasnt the problem with the 1/2 tons, it was the other stuff. They just feel light but can do the job. Titan xd fits me well as its between 1/2 and 3/4 tons.
