This is when it is misleading. Be sure that you use some cleaner to soften it up
and something to clean it out. After the varnish sticks to the side and gets hard,

I had a motor that had similar symptoms & turned out to be a blown head gasket. It idled fine but bogged down under a load. I hope this isn't your problem. (check plugs for moisture after you run it for a minute)
