Yea been hunting a long time I've been lucky to get 4 bands. No it's a hen the drakes have different color bills and it has just the slightest bit of a white bar on the bottom of the wing a black duck wouldn't have any white.

This should get good. BTW, never seen any duck ID where the legs are the "telltale" identification feature. And I took a course on waterfowl ID. "DaTroll" is in the house.

Pretty sure the band information would tell you what it is, or do they not record that kind of thing? Pretty sure they do.

BTW I guess the people doing the banding got it wrong.

Black duck wouldn't have made sense in South Louisiana anyway, which is where I assume you were hunting. Mottles are way more common.

Being that it was banded in August, I doubt seriously it would be a black duck. Timing just doesn't make sense.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure the guys that banded it know their ducks.
