Default Sabine River 7/29/2017

Fished 7:10am-3:20pm south of I-10. Tide movement was gentle all day. Caught 18 bass, kept 3 (plus a small one that had a deep hookset. I released it but it sputtered and died so I took it back out of the water and kept it).
A guy was fishing on a dock and I saw him catch a fish and slam it hard several times in the wharf while yelling. I saw the fish floating. It was a blue catfish so I kept it, too.
Bass are eating purple w/ red flake trick worms apparently. I found it interesting that it was broken into three pieces.

I wish I had it figured out!
I've been trying to break out of my "habit holes", fish spots I've never fished, fish deeper stuff than just pounding the bank.
I found a school of (very) small bass suspended in 24-30 feet of water. That was a first for me.
I caught the first one on a Texas-rigged worm by accident. It hit a few seconds after I casted and caught me off guard. I threw back in with a spinnerbait... nothing. Crankbait... nothing. Back with the worm, let it fall for three seconds and fished it like a fast fluke. I caught (and released) four 8-9" fish in the same little spot. Strange.

A buddy of mine fished the river the same day in an entirely different area and didn't get a bite. Yesterday, he fished his same area and kept 9 bass.
It's an interesting river, for sure.
