I can catch fish with or without them but the more you fish you'll learn the comfort and feel of quality gear is worth it

I just bought a Quantum Smoke 100 and will be "reviewing" it over the next few weeks. It's light (6.1oz) and it casts a mile. I've been casting it every day on the lake by my house, but no SW test as of yet. Only two issues I see are the drag and the brake, but maybe it's just getting used to the change from the Curado. Brakes can only be set in 4 intervals as opposed to individually for the Curado, and the drag is either all or nothing.

If it passes the SW test then I will be buying a lot more.

Another reel line to check out are the Lew's. I never even looked at them before, but they make an awesome baitcaster. Several guys at the fishing show were touting them and claimed they have used them in the salt for over a year with no problems.

I have a quantum energy pts, and don't think you would be dissappointed. I have several shimanos, and believe the quantum is as good, if not better, than similar priced shimano.

Avoid the Smoke. Was great while it lasted - for two trips before freezing a bearing. Exchanged it for the Lew's last night. We'll see...

Sulphite...I tried a few different brand of reels. Trust me, get a SHIMANO Curado or Chronarch....especially the Chronarch and never look back!
