Default Rainbow Trout in BR

Anyone ever fish the BREC ponds for rainbows. Thinking of trying them out one day and just wondering what works on them.

They stocked them at the I-10 park in Jennings when I was a kid, me and my buddy whipped the stock out with a rooster tail

We would catch 20 or more a day

Ya'll eat em? I heard the stocked one's taste bad because of what they feed them at the farms they get them from.

LOL was rumor spread by the fly fishermen to try to get folks to not take any home.
Gut and smoke or cook over some coals.

I honestly dont recall how they tasted but I know we ate a lot of them, they were real boney

When they stocked them they put a 10 per person a day and we got our 20 almost every time... then they dropped em down to 5 a day but it was too late. between us and a few others that we meet during the time they were stocked, we got a azz load..

Think they put in 2000 or 2500

Well, sounds like anything else I suppose. No fish here, no deer there, no turkeys anywhere. Lmao, some people man.

Guess I'll have to try and get some then.

Yep, I'm one of those dasterdly fly fishermen who tell folks to let 'em go. I confess that's partly because I want everyone to get a shot at catching a bunch with as many as possible still in the ponds.

But honestly, who on this forum actually believes that a fish that has spent all of it's life living in an overcrowded tank eating pellets, and each other's droppings, is going to taste better than wild speckled trout, redfish, flounder, sacalait, bream, bass, white bass, catfish, etc?

Give 'em a couple weeks in the ponds, then take 'em home. They taste a lot better!

I have not kept any this year or last, They are not stocking near as many and Like catch said I love to see kids catch them. I liked to spit out my teeth when the guy at forest park wearing them out on a #12 black wooly bugger told me that they taste just like liver??? They been in the ponds for over a month so they should be flushed out.

Default Lamar Dixon

I went to a birthday party for my grandson at the Zachary BREC park last Sat. There was a guy fishing with red worms on the bottom(carolina rig) pulling in one after another. As mentioned, he was using very light mono and a small hook.
I am in Prairieville and was wondering if they were biting at the Lamar Dixon pond? I heard they stocked them down there.

Ascension Outdoors just did a show on the stocked ponds at Lamar Dixon........they put 500 lbs .......it was just over 1,000 fish.........

3,000 $$ bucks the parish recreation and East Ascension sportsman's League put up..........

seems like a reasonable idea for those that don't play sports.

Thanks for the reply, simplepeddler. Nice to see the some tax money going to fishing. Also, the landing off of 22 is nice. Glad the parish acquired that. Gonna check out the pond soon.
