FlagUS I had to share this...

This was written by a good friend of mine in regards to his nephew that passed away suddenly Nov. 9th. I had to share this with you guys.

As my nephew was laid to rest, the Patriot Guard Riders a motorcycle group stood guard along the road each bearing the American Flag giving honor and protection to those attending. It was an awesome sight to behold. I thought about it many times after and today I wondered what it would look like to someone who didn’t know. I tried to put it in words the best I could, while I am no writer and certainly not a poet, I hope this honors you as you have honored the family of Corporal Kyle Meyers USMC.

Is that a parade…said a little boy to his Dad
Well sort of son…as they watch them hold the flags

... What’s it for, he asked…as they stepped out of the car
Take your hand, Dad said…place it over your heart

You see the car, the black one, the long one in the front
There’s a soldier in there, and they’re carrying him home.

Why can’t I see him… where’s the soldier, Dad
And where’s he going to live… all I see is graves

I don’t know the story, said the father, to the son
I don’t know his name, but I know why this is done

You see when people gather… in uniforms with flags
It’s meant to honor someone, someone who honored them

He must have served our country and brought great honor to his name
Now, in a second, you’ll hear rifles, but don’t be afraid

Wow, Dad, did you hear that…3 times, said the boy
He looked up at his father, whose eyes were red and moist

Dad, are you crying…a little, said his Dad
I want to cry too, that trumpet makes me sad

He picked the boy up in his arms and hugged his son so tight
He began to answer all the questions of all the sounds and sights

As traffic moved off slowly, they could heard a bagpipe play
And a man on a motorcycle, gave his son a flag that day
