Hydro-Turf
I have painted 3 boats with roll on bed liner stuff, but I'm gonna install Hydro-Turf from now on.
If you need some tips on roll on stuff I can help u out though. |

I used this over a year ago on my aluminum floor flatboat and its still as good as the day I put it on. and I used the heck out of it and drag ice chests and tackle boxes around at it never wears on the surface at all. it goes on very thick (like 1/8" thick) so it does take about a month to get fully hardened all the way through so you have to be careful not to drag heavy stuff around before it has 3 or 4 weeks to fully harden solid.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Restore-D...9021/203060255 if you paint on metal use self etching primer first. it stays nice and cool and even in direct sunlight.it doesn't get hot home depot stopped selling it by the gallon and just sells the 4 gallon cans but you can find it other places. my 17x52 flatboat took 1 1/2 gallons to do two thick coats of floor front deck and sides |

Line-A-Boat
Clean metal with acetone, and score it if possible this will help the 1st layer stick.
Use thick nap rollers. Most important part---Apply the 1st layer very very thin, the liners I used worked very well as a primer. After 1st coat is dry you can use a thicker nap roller to apply a thicker layer or layers. You can play with the texture when applying your last coat. If your happy with the smoothness or texture then let of dry. If you want more traction, take your roller and roll it over the surface when the paints still "wet" but tacky. This will "lift" up the paint and provide traction and texture. I have applied 3 coats in a few hours before but the weather was much drier than we have now. Good luck, holla if you have any more questions. |
