I may just go the 6.7 route and do all the deletes. Im not worried about warranty cause it will be a commercial truck anyway. Like said it is hard to find a 5.9 under 100,00 miles. I know can last a long time but I rather be the one to put the miles on it vs someone else.

Id go check out the one in Houston. But if you dont mind the $1, 000 for deletes, the 6.7 would ve a good choice

If its commercial and be rolled, the deletes will pay for themselves in fuels alone. Top that off with the reduced risk of meltdown and it's a win win.

I have 05 5.9 2500 4x4 with about 140,000 on it now! When the truck was bone stock the first year I drove it, it did 17-19 hwy, and 14-16 city. Never any better, and only worse when towing or added weight in the back! A 600lb wheeler, or a 1,000lb trailer load would drop it 15-17 and 13-15 mpg! Before I purchased this truck every diesel owner I knew said that added tow, or weight did not effect mpg, but that was not he case, but still not bad for a 325hp 610 foot pounds of torque 8,000 lb truck! After all were not driving a Prius here.
After 15,000 miles I added 35in tires a leveling kit with 2 in block in the back and super chips flashpaque tuner, for a Lil more ooommff! Set up like this the truck does 14-18 hwy 12-14 city the higher mileage naturally is empty truck with less fuel, and the lower would be with a load on the truck! Since the day I bought the truck the computer lied about the mileage, along with my close friends 05 5.9 and my uncles 06 5.9. Mine stock said 21-22 mpg hwy, and 17-19cty my calculations did not add up to this ever! With the programmer it said 23-25 hwy 19-21cty, again the computers lying! I've always calculated my mileage as long as I can remember, and then out of curiosity on fishing and boating trips doing the same on my buddy's and uncles. Then again their's was also not accurate! I've been in 6 different 5.9's 4x4's from 04-06 models and none of them did better than 20 hwy, but all respectfully close to my mileage some being stock, 2 being 6 speed manuals 4.11 gears! The 6 speed manuals did the closeest to 20 hwy empty! The 4 speed autos a Lil less with 3.73 rear ends. Either way you look at it, if you do buy a 5.9 your getting a great motor in a decent truck! 2 of the trucks I'm very familiar with are pushing 400,000 original miles on the motors! Tranny for those years are another story! That Lil motor is tranny destroyn machine! It pulls like a freegin freight train!

Yeah the computer lies for sure....I saw my hunting podnas truck it was saying 28-30mpg. I said no friggin way a 4x4 crew cab long wheel base could do that. When we stopped to fill up back in lafayette it got 24 and some change. Still damn good....now half of the trip the speed limit is 65 so I am sure that had alot to do with it. Like you said the autos don't hold up for extended times....I will not buy anything but the 6 spd manual.

Oh and with the manual, you will NOT have a fast truck. The autos are WAY faster

I pull a 40'gn everyday and in my opinion instead of a 3500 series buy a 4500 or 5500 for the bigger tires and breaks. Also if you haven't bought a trailer yet make sure your trailer has electric over hydraulic brakes.

I agree with you just don't want to put up that much money on a truck just starting out. I will be pulling my uncles trailer and it is electric brakes.

I had electric on mine and you can't keep them working so I spent 2000 bucks and had electric over hydraulic put on and I haven't had any problems since. If you need to know any questions feel free to ask me and I will be happy to answer them.

The auto tranny on your previous truck held up to heavy towing on a regular basis?

EXACTLY. Put the pencil to it and it always changes .

Mine did 95k my buddy's did 60 k
Spoke with 2 top notch tranny specialist, and both said I was blessed to get what I did with the programmer and bigger tires! The tuner curves the power range substantially in second gear, wear it makes a lot of its torque! 2nd gear is notorious for going out on the 4 speed.
Both said they've seen numerous 4 speeds with 60-70k miles slipping second from non aggressive drivers meaning your typical 70 yr old man pulling his airstream 6 times a year!
The trick is heavy duty clutch plates, and and oversize torque converter! Heat kills them!
I pull an occasional 10-12k load, but pull 3,500-4000 3-4 times a week 6 moths a year! I've got a Jasper in mine now with the heavy duty plates and over sized converter! 4,500 installed! My buddy has a custom built that ran 7k
A dodge factory will run 3,700 @ dodge cost before Jethro Bodine installs it!
The manuals burn plates also, but are not quite as costly to repair or replace!
