Default Flying with a Rifle

Leaving On Saturday to go on a mule deer hunt in Utah. I have never flown with a firearm before. What do I have to do?

Make sure you have a good case, I bought a flight rated gun case last yr and I have a flight rated bow case. They cost some money but mine both guaranty my things are protected or they give replacement of contents. Shipping is the way to go and it will save you the heart ache of lost baggage.

It is one big pain in the ***. Make sure you gun case is airline approved, you have a lock and an operational key for the gun case, and you ammo cannot be stored in the gun case. You may want to ship your rifle through a service such as FedEx or UPS.

I have flown many times with no issues checking guns. You need to have a good strudy case. It must be unlocked when you arrive at check in. No ammo in gun case. TSA opens the case and puts a card inside of it showing it was checked. You hand them your lock and they lock it. They then put it on the conveyor with your other checked bags.
