What brand spin cast rod and reel did you have the kid using? I need a new one for my 5 year old, but I don't want to spend too much incase it ends up on the bottom with his last one.

I use the Lews ss300 speed spin reels which are not bad prices with a shimano rod ...

For a 5 year old I would get him that Zebco "the hawg" until he got a little older .... Kids can cast that a mile and it holds up in saltwater pretty good also

Almost recognize that area.

Plus I recall not too long ago catching Spec's 2-3 at a time on live bait, that i caught, while a boat load
of true "sportsman", casting plastic, weren't getting a bite. Who do you think had a better time?????? I'm always about catching fish

I have a seen a times where the specs wouldn't touch my $16 or however much they are live shrimp but would demolish artificial. And I've seen it vise versa. W I admire that you are sticking to the no live bait. As long as your clients are happy and catching who cares what you're throwing. That's my two cents.
