I'm thinking that also Tim. There are no spots in the driveway. I guess it could have leaked out on Stevey's drive to Lafayette today. That is the first thing I plan on checking when I get home in the morning. Thanks!

Update, cranked truck and let engine get hot. The truck moved 3' in drive and 2' in reverse then all gears slip. Checked fluid level before cranking, up 3" on stick (above full mark). After engine hot, level on stick still above full by about 1.5". Pump appears to be working. Don't know why level is high.

I had a problem with my gmc. But it was 4wd I tried putting it in 4wd one day and it wouldn't engage. So I just put it back in 2wd put in reverse to leave and when I put in forward it wouldn't go anywheres. So I just started pushing buttons and gas finally a big knock then It was in gear. On the way home it disengaged again so I pulled over bout the time I stopped it engaged again. So when I got home I tried just to leave it in auto4wd mode and for some reason it ran better like that. Never brought it to the shop but some one was telling me it sounded like the shift motor was out. I'm not sure if the 2wd have a shift motor?

If the check engine light came on when tis started, have it scanned and see what's up.

Paul, read the dipstick. It usually says to check fluid at operating temp and in neutral. Its kinda sounding like the torque converter, but without sitting in it, its hard to say

What color is the trans fluid? dark red (almost brown or black) or transparent red color? How does it smell?

Also, if the tran fluid has any "glitter" in it, its a sure sign of real trouble.

@ Dink, I did that but I think I did it with the truck in park. I'll check again in the morning.
@ bay_slayer, it is translucent red maybe a very slight brown in it and does not smell burnt. Fluid was changed @ 60,000 miles and now has 107,000. @ southern151, I saw no metal in it at all. The torque converter seems likely to me also now that y'all mentioned it. |
