Boat Cleaning

I would like to see what everyone uses to clean the inside of their bay boat after a trip besides water and a brush. I've tried a few things and haven't found anything I like so far that gets it completely clean like I like it.

Attwood or star brite non skid deck cleaner, a good brush and lots of elbow grease.

I use dawn dish soap. As long as I keep a good coat of woody wax on it the deck will clean up pretty quick.

Soak down with simple green. Leave it a few minutes. Spray it off with light pressure washer. Everything comes off.

^^^^This or Tide liquid with bleach in a bucket of water. Brush it and spray down with water.

Anything with degreaser in it will strip wax and cause gelcoat to oxidize very fast. If your going to wax right after washing degreasers such as simple green etc. are fine. Bleach is about the worst thing to use unless you dont mind your boat looking old very quickly.

I use "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner for the deck ONLY, then what ever type of boat soap that is available for the rest of the boat. This does a great job and yes I wax her at least twice a year which should be done regardless of what you are using to keep her clean.

Also to note, "The Works" has been highly recommended by two seperate dealerships, one here in LA, and the other came from who I bought my boat from in NC.

Bayou chub is on point. Don't use harsh stuff unless you like a chalky boat. Plus, when it chalks up it holds even more stains, so you're just screwing yourself in the long run.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

My favorite so far is the Star brite anti skid cleaner with PTfE. Brush it on damp just to spread it around and get it in all the grooves, let it sit but not dry,scrub away and rinse. Wear sunglasses so it doesn't blind you when you're in the sun!

Soaps and washing detergent leave scum buildup, harsh cleaners wreak havoc on wiring... I won't buy a boat from someone who didn't clean it right.

Sorry if I am hijacking, but what type of wax / protectant do you guys use on decks?

People say woody wax, but I haven't found it useful. It's just a bandaid. The Star Brite has PTfE in it which is a sort of protector.

Best thing is have someone wax/seal it once every year or two, and just keep it nice and clean with products that won't strip the wax. The wax lasts a long time if you stay away from strippers like fish soap.

THT has great threads on this, but you have to wade through a lot of "toilet bowl cleaner" and "bar keepers friend"... YouTube has only one video that I have found that will show how to buff a non skid deck - he uses a buffer with a nylon carpet brush on it. Once you get it to be like new, it's easy to maintain compared to scrubbing your butt off every time.. I like McGuiars products for vehicles and boats.

If you want it easy to clean, you gotta make it shine and seal it in. No different than cars and campers.

Starbrite cleaner is by far the best thing to use on your boat, my first bay boat I used bleach, the works, rustaway product. It cleans the boat without much effort, but trust me it will age your boat fiberglass real quick even if you wax over it.

One more thought... I find that as it stays in the sun after cleaning the star brite actually continues to "bleach" out anything that might be left behind. Don't use it while your buddies boats are nearby, they'll use it all.

Light Pressure wash first. Inside of boat (star brite non skid deck cleaner). Outside of boat(FSR) if there is a bad scum line. Pass back over with (OrPine wash & wax) entire boat.
