Best thing to do is fish,keep a mental note about how much you ran/hard you ran. Fill up and see what you burned, fuel gauges in a boat shouldn't exist cause they don't work long. Just my 2 cents

I would never trust a fuel gauge on the water...It ain't like you can get out and walk...I would also carry a 3-6 gallon portable tank as a backup just in case depending how far you travel....It sort of like insurance.....
