Default Open water to be announced for Sabine soon.

Several of the larger lakes in the refuge will be designated as open water which will allow boat operation in them. This will open up lots more easily accessible hunting area this year. Also solve the "illegal" running in shallow canals.

They're gonna shut down hunting off the burton ditch too. Unit D will be closed to all waterfowl hunting activity.

My understanding was they were shutting off access from Burton but they would have a boat lane to area D

Burton will not be closed.. I don't know why that rumor is still floating around. It is 100% not true.

As soon as I can figure out how to upload the map of the new named lakes that will allow outboard use, I will.

I had the conversation with a Warden last weekend who backed this up. I also asked about the new boat lanes, he himself even said dont hold your breath on that happening, but burton ain't gonna be closed.

Here is the map....

1. You will only be able to run the open water not threw any vegetation.

2. Burton WILL NOT be closed.

3. Surface drive boats WILL BE allowed with NO HP restriction.

4. This is a 2 year probation, so don't mess it up.

5. The new hunt brochures will only be in grayscale so I suggest you print this map and have it with you.

6. This map ONLY indicates the open water that can be run. It DOES NOT show the actual hunt boundaries (which have not changed.)

Closed Area indicated in red. (Not 100% accurate but there are signs on the refuge indicating what is open and closed. The hunt brochure will have a better map indicating the closed areas.)

Highlighted open waterways depict the ONLY areas where outboard use will be permitted.
