Blackjack is what most ppl call ringneck ducks. Other names for scaup are DOS gris, bluebill. Ringnecks have a black back. Scaup have more gray on their back.

Hunt my lease SW Kaplan...2 of us shot 12.

2 pins...Could shot 10 but would of been happy with the past two per man limit
2 spoons
8 teal

Could of shot black jack by the dozens.. lol

Normally on a day like today we shoot nothing but big ducks. However, I did see more ducks moving North- South and visa versa today. Why the hell did they drop the limit from 2 to 1 pins this year. Freaking pisses me off.

Still not many good reports coming from PI marshes ..... I dont get it.. coldest couple wks of weather I can remember in years yet still no big push to speak of in the marsh. Now there are areas in central LA rice fields that are holding numbers but still below average for the most part. Hoping I get to make a few more hunts up that way.

Hunted my lease yesterday for the first time since opening weekend. We didn’t see much by 8:30 so we packed up and headed to my cousin’s lease between GC and Cameron. Pulled up to hundreds of birds. Ended with 17. A mix of teal, grey, spoonies, and one ringneck.

Hunted my place in Marksville by the red river. 1 spoon and 1 gray. Saw maybe 100 ducks all morning! Something has to give. Lake is covered in grass, water depth is right, just no ducks.

All the birds are in the Whiteville area stacked up just to the south of you.

I used to shoot ring necks at one of our blinds back when I chased birds. Fun birds to shoot. They can move that's for sure. They eat decent. I'll take a grilled breast from a poule doux(water chicken) over a ring neck though.

It was nice to get back out there. I thought we would do good on my lease since it hadn?t been hunted all season and the weather was right. Didn?t see much in the sky at all. Talk about disappointing.

Finally got the boat back. The kill switch was bad and a coil had went out. Got it all fixed and another issue popped up. Some other part that Briggs had put a service bulletin out on that apparently fried the coil in the first place. I lucked out cause I had about 2 weeks left on the warranty!

How?s y?all season been going?

The lease I got in on in PI (North side about a few miles West of rollover) is basically over grown. We have like 500 acres with only 1 pond which has zero feed in it and a small pot hole that holds teal at times that are hunt able. The other 2 - 3 blinds have Sylvania or is covered up in saw grass. I should of did more research on my end before I got in but you live and learn. They will need to drain it or burn it. I do hear more shooting to the East of us but not really a lot. My last few reports have been hunts at my rice field spot SW of Kaplan. Yesterday 2 of us shot 5 in SW Kaplan.

Yep, if they don’t show up this week with the cold weather and ice and snow to the north of us then us duck hunters are in serious trouble.

Default Start of the 2nd split

I bet I didn?t see 30 ducks on my lease Fri morning. Shot 4. Sucks to say, but I think this is my last year paying for a duck lease.

Same as Rene, I lease some property right around him and it isn?t properly maintained for the price we pay. I had to pay a marsh cutting service to come clear holes for me to actually have somewhere to hunt.

Hunted SW Kaplan this morning and shot 1. I bet i did not see 50 ducks and that is even the high flying ones. Did not hear much shooting in the area.

The PI lease shot 5 this morning.

Hopefully this isn’t the new norm for duck hunting in our area. The past few years we could blame high water in the marsh and warm temps all season long. Not so this year. We have no excuses. I know things go in cycles but I’m starting to think that they don’t come here anymore. Gray ducks were our bread and butter for years and I don’t think we have killed 20 Grays this year. Hope I’m wrong about this!! East side of Pecan Is.
