Default Boat build/Motor cost

I am about to start a boat build soon within the next few weeks. I am planning on building a 18 x 56 or 60 not sure yet aluminum flat with a small V....(this is why I was so interested in your boat mstulb)....anyways I know it's wide but I want a good
Wide all purpose boat...I'm right at 2000 for material cost right Now...that includes welding materials and aluminum...I pretty much want a wide open boat that has plenty of room to fish out of and haul stuff up and down the river....any opinions that may better my I dea are welcomed...

My question to you all is what Size motor would you all put on this behemoth?? I want it to be tiller driven. I also am not sure if I'm going new or used yet....this boat will be used alot this summer in hopedale with high gas prices so i need to be able to get some speed out of it....???

Look for a yamaha enduro 75, tuff motor 20" shaft. Used to see the in the basin on crawfish skiffs and have seen 2 used for $3,000.

3 cyl, 2 stroke 60 Merc. I've got a 40 on a 17.5x48" and it will run 35 with two men and gear. Like Raymond said though, make sure you go with the 20" shaft.

20ftx5ft boat and you want a tiller, what gauge aluminum you getting and do you have a spool gun to weld with, or are you using heli-arc, I wonder how this is costing 2000 in material?

Got a spool gun sheet 20 x 8 sheet of 1/4 " is 1675 in st rose and I'll prolly still need an addition 4x10 sheet...it's gonna be 18x60 not 20 and I haveu reasons for needing it to be tiller...one of them being I own a 35 hp surface drive that I'd like to be able to put on during the winter...but mainly just cause I want it that way....y are u doubting I can build it for 2 grand or is this too much to you?? Cause it's actually pretty cheap in my book...the boats the easy part...the motoris gonna be the b*itch part....I was gonna buy an older fiberglass boat but decided to spend the money on something I'll use alot more...I'll be able to haul people and stuff down the tangi river in it and fish of it in the summers and run people to diff duck blinds down kanarvin in Delacroix during the winter

Not telling you how to build your boat but, mine is 3/16" thick all the way around and I've hit everything under the sun with it and NO damage. Something you may want to consider. Also, I have a 6" catwalk on top of mine. What type of ribs are you looking at for it? Just trying to get an idea so maybe, I could be of some help to you.

If you want to try one out, you are welcome to take a ride with me in mine next time I have it out. It's similar in numbers minus the width. Let me know and we'll try to line something up if ya interested.

no, I was expecting the aluminum to cost more than that, me and a friend made a aluminum center console for his 21fter and it cost $600 for the aluminum not including wire, tips and a couple tanks of argon, I was thinking about making a skiff before I bought my boat. I was gonna use .090 for sides and .125 for bottom.

1/4" is going to make it a real pig on the water.
3/16th should be sufficient and alot lighter, years ago $100/Ft was standard to have one built. Make sure you take pics during the build, wish I had the brain power to attempt.

Corey that was my concer hitting slot of stuff in it I have a 17 foot duracraft with a 40 evinrude that has a special meaning to me it runs great but rides like sh*t....and every time I hit a stic it seems to dent...not sure on the ribs just yet

LP I'm surprised it was that cheap also I was thinking my big sheet was gonna cost me 23 or 24....

I'll check my rib spacing on mine when I get a chance. That will make a big difference in how it dents or doesn't. Mine goes over cypress knees, reefs, stumps, pilings, you name it! There are some scratches on the botton but not the first dent. Again, I attribute this to rib spacing. A wide open span will dent easy as well as warp.

Pretty cool when we were crawfishin out of it, we'd hit those knees and you could feel it as it ran down the floor but never left any permanent marks.

Again, if I can get time and ya wanna hop on board, I'll take you on a spillway ride. You'd have a blast. I just wish I had a surface drive on it!

Just got some prices on a few different tiller handle motors (new):

2011 60 merc 4 stroke- 6318 already has the handle on it..

70 yAmaha 4 stroke 6695 but needs the handle kit wich Is about 689.99

And 90 merc 2 stroke 2010 model Cajun outboards has 4 or 5 left for 6440...handle included..

All are a little expensive so I'm deff gonna do some research on some used motors....if anyone knows of any for sale let me know....I do like that 90 though seems kinda inexpensive...but expensive at the same time..
