I read today that they will be doing a draw down at Chicot starting after Labor Day. This may be a good thing for ya'lls tournament.

Well so much for planning ahead, got to move tournament to another lake again. They are lowering the water, after labor day, to kill off some of the grass.

Could be a good thing. But the thing is that that is not a real deep lame to begin with. What they need to do is stock the ever living **** out of it!!!

To catch fish, yes. the draw down could be a good thing. If I were you I would not change plans.

The lake is basically a boat lane, which is normally 12-14ft deep and every wheres else is a huge flat that is 7- 9 ft.( north) and 5-6ft(south) There is more cover in that lake than you know what to do with. Lots of places for fish to hide that are inaccessible. With the draw down it could get interesting. Low fishing pressure, cooler weather, fish getting forced out of their normal hiding spots may make it more favorable for the fisherman.
I've seen some extremely nice fish come out of that lake in the fall time.

Stay in middle of boat lane when you run and you will be ok. every wheres else is stump city.

Just not too wild about grass carp. They need to leave that lake alone for a few years.

Has anyone been there recently? If water goes down 2' will the grass be laying across surface of water so bad that you can't fish at all?

One more week till I'm heading to Chicot. Has anyone heard anything since they started releasing water? Hope we can find something to tug on the line.

We didn't catch alot but I did catch one that went 5.6 lbs, good end to a very slow day.

How did the lake look grass wise? I live in Ville Platte but my fishing is mostly limited to Verm bay. I just bought a kayak though and thinking of fishing in the afternoons afterwork. Just haven't heard too many reports from people around town since hunting season started up.

I was really happy with what I saw as far as the grass. Everyone had me thinking that it was gonna be bad, definately with them lowering the lake two feet. But I didn't fish anywhere that I thought was hard to fish because of the grass. Sad thing is I didn't really look into fishing directly in the creek until the last few minutes. We found that the entire creek, mostly on the bends, was filled with active fish. I don't think all of them were bass, but I used a DD16 and got one fatty. Wish I would have started with the creek, it could have been a really good day.

I was in Chicot this weekend for a family gathering. We stayed in the cabins that are on the water (Cabin 13 to be exact). The weather was perfect and the lake looked perfect. I fished an hour or so on Friday with no luck (brush hog, chart spinner/buzz, plastic worms, frog). Fished all the stumps and grass that I could find, an nothing. Did the same thing on Saturday for a few hours with the same result! I thought it might be good with it being right in front of a cold front but it wasn't. It's the most beautiful place to scratch that I've been yet though. Very humbling!

i use to catch so many bass there when i was a kid but havent had any luck there in quite some time i have taken it off my places to fish it is a beautiful place but fishing is not what it once was

I use to fish it in late 1990's and fished it recently.
What I never liked all the gators.
The reason why I stopped in the 1990's I was on some nice bass in blue Springs and looked around I was surrounded by huge gators basking in the sun.
That was back when they had the contest if you would catch a tagged 13 lb bass you would win money.

Then came back to fish it recently and hasn't changed much.
They got some nice bass in there, but you have to deal with gators and wasp nest when water up.

I done well off white spinnerbaits, crawl baits, jigs and true floating worms by Haw River.
Biggest bass recenlty was 9 lbs came off white spinnerbait.
Biggest bass in June 1996 right after a nice rain storm. The bass weighed 11 lbs came off riverside lure 5" crawl worm red claws.
