Default Bull reds, gafftops, and black drum needed for scientific study

All the approvals and funding are in place, and our team is headed to SWLA this weekend to begin the fifth year of our scientific study using condition factors in fish to study the relationship between oyster populations (and other factors) and fish condition in the Calcasieu estuary.

If past years are any indication, we expect to have plenty of redfish under 27" and specks of all length classes. We can always use more measurements of bull redfish, gafftops, and black drum of all sizes.

If you allow our team to weight and measure your fish, I will personally clean your gafftops, black drum, and bull reds if you wish. If you prefer not to take home the fillets, we can make sure they get to a family that can use them (either to families known personally to us or to a hunters for the hungry type program).

We will be at Calcasieu Point on Sat 5/16 beginning at 3 or 4 PM and we will be at Hebert's Marina tomorrow morning (Sun 5/17) beginning at 10 or 11 AM and staying until nearly all the boats that fish the morning are back in.

Angler cooperation has been key to our assessment of the fishery each of the past 4 years, and we need ongoing angler cooperation to make this year a success.
