New Mercury fourstroke

Hey Yall, I am looking at a new Nautic Star 2110 with the new Merc. Does anyone have one or have any feedback on them? Any opinions compared to the Yamaha F150?

Im sure it is a decent motor but mercury will never beat suzuki or yamaha when it comes to four strokes.

like how mercury says the most durable fourstroke in the world but they just came out. f mercury get the 150 yammy. that motor has proven itself to be one of the most reliable motors ever built.

How about the maintenance on the yammy? Merc says less maintenance than the yamaha.

Stick with a Merc 2 stroke or like smacker said get the yammy 4 stroke

Get a 200 optimax. One of my neighbors has that setup and it runs nice. A 150 just isn't enough on that hull. You'll have to run it wide open to get decent performance. I've got a 200 opti on my aluminum bay boat and I'll never buy a 4 stroke as long they keep making the optimax engines. At 4000RPM I only burn 7 gallons an hour.

dont see where merc is getting less maintenance. both are fuel injected fourstrokes. you still have to change oil after so many hours and lower unit oil after so many hours. as far as water pumps,spark plugs, filters its all the same. mercury might say you can go 25 hours on a oil change instead of 20 on the yamaha. little things like that so they can say theirs is better. the only motor id buy from merc right now would be a optimax. they are great motors but the fourstrokes arent that great imo.

Kenner18 has one with a 150 opti he guides out of.

Talked to OB mechanic here in BR just last week about Merc 4 strokes & Yamaha 4 stroke because I had awesome deal on both. He says the Merc 4 strokes are cheaper made has a lot of plastic parts, he works on alot of them with cheap broken parts & parts are hard to get, takes forever. He told me to stick with the Yamaha.

looked up both engine test for your boat. the merc looks like it gets better fuel at the higher rpm's but the yamaha is faster. one thing merc doesn't say is the test weight of the boat. http://www.yamahaoutboards.com/sites...-09-19_bay.pdf

Thanks for the great info guys. I would go with the 200 opti but it i just out of my price range. Believe me I would love to have that motor on this boat.

As for now I have to stick with the 150, but I am taking donations...or I can mow your grass for the extra money...

I would wheel and deal as much as possible to squeeze the extra $1000-2000 to get the 200. It will definitely be worth it in the long run, but if its still out of range I would go with a 150 optimax before I'd get either the Mercury or Yamaha 4 stroke.

get you a suzuki you wont be disappointed my 250 has a better holeshot and more power than a 250 yamaha on the same boat. I'm sure the 150 is no different

My tournament partner has the new 150 Mercury 4 stroke on one of his guide boats. I installed this motor on the boat in January, replacing a 175 Suzuki that had given up(with well over a 1000 hours). So far, the Merc has been great, over 200 hours without a single hiccup. Oil changes and maintainence are super easy, as was the rigging. Performance wise, it is nearly spot on with the Suzuki it replaced in speed and fuel economy, with a slight edge in the economy department. This is a totally new engine for Mercury and so far, so good. Couldn't be happier.

cool, thanks for the info, still on the fence, seems a bunch like the yamaha because it has proven itself. the merc Verados, i have heard the same from a few mechanics, they are nice but complicated, more plastic and more things to go wrong.

I have taken a close look at the new merc and like what i see only issue is that they have not been out long therfore not proven. this motor has been designed from the ground up and amd made to be as simple as possible.

Jez, what a decision... still thinking about the 200 though, it would be nice to have the extra power.

How would you guys that have a 2110 with a 150 rate its performance? I would like to cruse at the speed of light but wife starts *****in when i hit 40 mph therfore a 50 mph top end is good enough. that is 10 mph into the ***** zone...

I rode in a 2110 with a yamaha 150 4stroke and his cruised in the low to mid 30's and topped out near 45.

I have the Yamaha 150 4 stroke on a 2200 Blazer Bay. I have no complaints. Good hole shot good top end and plenty of power down low. Top end is around 50 on my GPS. At 3800 RPM's at 35MPH where I cruise fuel economy is great less than 4GPH. How fast do you need to go? I think it is the perfect motor for my needs. All I've ever needed to do to it is change the oil. Next time I'm home I'm bringing it in to have the oil/lower unit oil changed and maybe have the water pump changed. Don't think I need it but will do so anyways. I hope to have many many more trouble free years out of this motor.
