Default 8-6-17 Just One Of Them Days

Got off work a little early this am so I could be in the fishing hole at dark just before sunrise. Was hoping to catch a quick limit of specks around Turners then try for some Reds and be back at launch for 10am. O, let me say thanks to Randy with Cody fishing Charters. He may have said Cody with Cody fishing Charters. Either way thank u for helping me get to the fishing hole early this am. Anyway, not long after I got my live shrimp say 10-15 minutes the aerator quit working. So I started messing with the wires trying to get it to come on , even though I figured it was time for a new one. Pulled the wire out of the butt connector. While working on that I cut my left index finger to the knuckle bone. So had to stop and bandage it up. Then go back to aerator and the screw cap on back of flash light come off and fell in bottom of hull somewhere around the bilge pump and aerator and wires. finally got it wired back up but its dead and pumped just a trickle before getting hot. By now the sun is about to rise and I'm sitting on the reef. Well when it does get light enough to see I realize I'm in water that looks like chocolate milk! 20 min ride for nothing. head back to channel where I caught em last Thursday but the water is dirty there too. so much for early limit and shrimp are dying. Been wanting to go north so that's what I did. Was worried about storms south. Water is beautiful up around casinos. Caught 30 or more little 10" rat reds until I realized the shrimp that had stayed alive are almost gone. Its 9am and I have one keeper red so I make another move. First 2 cast catch 2 trout. Then not 1, not 2, but 3 trout I landed and took off the hook and went to put in box slid out of my hand with bad taped up finger and hit front deck and back in water. Catch and release at its best. I'm thinking I need to call it. But there is a couple spots I wanted to try on way back by the plants along channel but now I'm out of shrimp. on the way I get a few pogies but didn't want to put too many in live well without aerator will surely die. Make one more stop just north of Moss Lake and the 12"-!4" trout are running thru there thick! Finally pulled it all together and boxed a dozen or so trout and 4 more reds releasing a couple over 27" before I ran out of pogies. By now its almost noon and time to go. had to be back at work at 6pm. Finished the day with a limit of reds, a dozen or so trout, and one flounder. Watched 3 boats limit out on specks with live shrimp but they all looked small like mine. Actually mine may have been a little better on the pogies. At one time I believe there was 6 boats lined up there and all catching fish. friend of mine , neverenuf, was the boat furthest south and he was throwing voo doo shrimp and boxed 8 or so releasing several small ones. He also caught several bull reds and kept one around 29". I only caught two trout that were under 12" all day. BUT the lady fish and small rat reds more than made up for that. IT is amazing how fishing changes day by day. Exactly why I don't mind sharing a little info with everyone. Think I'm gonna try up around Salt Water Barrier next trip. They caught them up there this time last year and I kept saying I was gonna try but never did. Really never have caught there. would like to catch some striper bass that I never caught. Good luck all

Great story. Determination wins out!
I went out to Prien Lake Saturday. Fished artificials for some hours Saturday around ship channel and Civic Center but only caught one 16" red and a few ladyfish on a chrome spoon. I'm an ok bass fisherman but saltwater has me stumped.
Anyway, thanks for the great report/story.

Thanks for the report. I love fishing up north and with pogies too. Might be getting to be that time of year again!

It's a bit behind this year, but starting to come together for sure!
