Default snapper fishing out of the Mermentau

What is the consensus of the group regarding the distance to snapper (red and/or mangrove) fishing out of the Mermentau River? Thinking of putting my camper in the Grand Chenier area and am interested in near/off shore fishing out of that area. I've been out of Freshwater City before and am somewhat familiar as to how far one has to go there, but thinking out of the Mermentau, they might be a bit closer.

It is closer out of Rollover SSW. However, out of the mouth of the Mermentau it is best to head SE to platforms about 35-40 miles. Don't recall the block offhand.

head due south out of Grand Chenier about 18 miles and you run into the north part of oil city platforms. you can start catching snapper at these rigs. You should see quite a few here and south of here.

Since the water has warmed up the snapper have moved farther out. 60-70 miles to get into good red snapper bite.

There's no more oil city. Not very many rigs left out there nowadays.

I've confirmed what you said Top. Took a look online to see if I could locate a map with current platform locations, but the most recent data is dated 2016. Was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a more current map which, hopefully, would contain lat/long or at least block info.

Anyone?

I went out of mermentau last weekend... there are only about 3 rigs in 55' of water (around 25-30 miles out), and then basically nothing. There's not much in the way of red snapper on those rigs... we have caught some little ones but that's about it... I ended up at about 42 miles out, and saw only one other rig to the southwest, around 10 miles away).

It's pretty barren out there.

Oops, forgot to post this part:

https://fishingstatus.com/home/map

seems to be pretty up to date, but there are rigs shown here that we didn't see this past weekend.

Mr. Bill

I have a friend who works for a oil company. I got and up to date map from him last summer..

U can have mine and get a copy made at kinko's.

Out of FWC due So is 127A @32 mile, then U come to 149 38 mile then a little SE of there is verm 170. at 42 miles. Due west from 170 about 12 miles is Verm 164 with a main and one small riser platform. Verm 191 in 95-100' of water is another 8-9 miles from Vm 170. From 191 a little SSW is Verm 214 at about 60 miles out. U can see it from 191 on a clear day so its about 10 miles from 191.

I hear rollover is silted up at the mouth of the gulf again.. I'm launching at FWC last 2 yrs.

CCA along with LA WLF, and other partners, will be placing 4-5 underwater artificial reefs in 75' of water in Verm 119/124 later this mth. Huge win for snapper fisherman. Will also be placing them in the E. Cameron as well as W. Cam Blks at a later date. EX: EC 88-89
