Question Mullet

I am hoping that some trustworthy parties can report back here on what happens at this meeting, or at least email me privately with the info.

I think the most important thing we need to communicate is that sportsman will not tolerate restrictive management strategies unless the supporting data is shared.

Closing the pogey plant has made the weir thing something of a red herring this year. Redfish and trout are growing fat on all the extra pogeys and their offspring that are in the system now that there are 100-200 kilotons of extra menhaden in the near shore waters moving into and out of the system for the fish to get fat on. Shutting down the pogey operation has probably also left lots of other species that were formerly removed from the area as bycatch of the pogey operations.

Where are the large rafts of mullet commonly seen in the 90s?

There were rafts of mullets all over the lake southto north in the fall and into the winter. I even have photos of some schools. I can't post any now - getting my truck serviced. But they were plentiful.

So....I'm guessing there's got to be a few pen wizards on here with sharp literary skills. Why don't we appoint someone to use some of that data from MG (and W?) and write up some articles. Newspaper, magazines, journals, etc. It's not that difficult. Unfortunately I don't fish enough or have the specific insight on this issue to be of much help. However, if MG's data is all legit and published, or at least if he gets it peer reviewed by some credible third party sources, it could do a lot to get this info into the public eye a bit.

On another note. I know everyone is working, and concerned with, agencies and contractors etc. Why don't y'all appoint a few members with some time to promote the agenda from a political standpoint? It's really very easy to lobby for something on your own as a citizen not affiliated with anybody but just concerned over a specific issue. I did it many times in high school (mom was a freelance lobbyist and political guru). You can go to the capital while they are in session or to their offices when they aren't and speak with the Senators and Reps personally most of the time. Doesn't take much at all to get some backing. You can use friends made in the house and senate as a little leverage on certain agencies or groups.

Lowering the limit on specks put more pressure on the younger mullet. Perhaps not enough young of the year have been surviving to fall and winter. If LDWF released their trawl survey data, it could be determined with more confidence whether the issue is with production of small age zero mullet or survival to the fall and winter.

Odds are greater menhaden numbers will reduce predation pressure on the mullet.

With the potential this meeting has it should be a pay per view event.

Hopefully the people that go will not make a scene. Sadly I can't make it. I hope someone informs us of the outcome.

Do you blame them ??

5 I know out of Top 10 were caught in Sabine

Look at the shootout weights since 2005 ! Looks like ENRON stock

Everyone I know who fished Sabine got a check and if I could fish it that's where I would of been also

No one blames Will for the fishing ???

Just the way he uses his power on the wrong things like
15 trout limit ( epic fail)
3 tail limit ( on a fish that lives 99.99% of its life offshore )
