Default Looking for a place to make my saltwater debut

Just looking for opinions on where to make the debut with the Carolina Skiff. I am thinking this first trip I want to stay on the east side of the state since it a little closer to my house. I was thinking south of New Orleans or in the Port Sulfur area. Anyone has any suggestions I am all ears.

How far is Laffite and Empire from Baton Rouge? What are reds biting on this time of year? Are spoons the way to go?

Would you feel comfortable in a J16 in that area. I am just not familiar with that area so if that is a dumb question I am sorry.

Lafitte is a good area for that boat . But ya can run all the way from lafitte to grand isle in the baritaria channel. Not that i'd try it.

yes, before i got my bay boat, i used my dads 16 foot bass tracker III.

lake salvador can get nasty at times. but as long you in the side canals fishing you are good. plus you don't know what you might catch. last time i went i was catching bass and reds fish down the same canals.

here a link to the general area where i fish..

thanks, bigdog. I work down in Port Sulfur from time to time this looks like it is closer to me than that is. I can make it to Port Sulfur in two hours so this would be a good close trip.
