I bought a Steoger 2000 semi auto 4 years ago and haven't regretted it. Paid $420 in camo. Don't know the prices today.

Remington 870 Express Super Mag, IMO... I hunted with that gun for 8 yrs before I bought a semi-auto. Only problems I had was shooting low brass shells when skeet shooting. That gun is a workhorse.

I just purchased a Mossberg pump and would not recommend it. After the fifth shot the shell did not eject and was stuck in the chamber. The duck hunt was over for the day and ruined.

Once the shotgun is sold you have to deal with Mossberg and not the store you purchased it from. So, after waiting forever to speak to a representative on the phone you receive a mailer label, box up the gun, mail it off, then wait until your gun is returned. The whole process will probably take around 3 weeks or maybe more.

You purchase a shotgun in good faith that it will work. In the process your duck hunt is ruined that day and all future duck hunting for the next 3 - 4 weeks while you wait for your gun to be returned because they won't refund your money so you can purchase a dependable shotgun and continue to enjoy the remainder of the duck season.

Signed,
Dissatisfied with Mossberg

My Nova had 2 raised pieces of plastic on the forearm. When you would slide it to eject a shell, they rubbed and caused friction making it difficult. I took a piece of emery cloth and shaved em down. Now when you press the release, the action falls open. It's a bit heavy but it has never failed on me.

I looked at those the other day....they are in the 700-800 range. I also looked into the 870 but I heard they are not made like the older ones.

The new 870s aren't the same gun as the old ones. And the expresses aren't very reliable. I have a nova that shoots great. Ugly and heavy but shoots fine. I only us it for turkeys though.

Benelli all the way. I had my nova 7 years, worked the piss out of it and never had not one single problem with it. My brother shoots it now and it's still kicking. Throw it in the boat, bang it around, push pole or paddle with it. Clean it when your done and it's ready for more.

I've got a super nova now and no complaints yet.

Caught a lot of hell from 870 purists, but given my experience with benelli I won't switch now.

This is very true I have an old wing master that will shoot no matter what! I also had a supermag express that would hardly ever shoot right!!

I agree with the new 870's not living up to the legend.....
If you go Remington and I would, I would look around and buy him a used classic wing master
